AUBURN, Ala. ---- The Samford University women's tennis team fell to intra-state rival Auburn on Thursday at the Auburn University Tennis Complex on Thursday. The match was Samford's final match of the 2006 spring season before the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
The Bulldogs fell to 12-6 overall, while the Tigers improved to 6-16. Auburn jumped out quickly, winning the doubles point, claiming two matches. No. 3 match was suspended, after the Tigers clinched the doubles point.
Auburn claimed three of the singles points, while two of the singles matches were suspended. Bethany Benson claimed the No. 6 point for Samford, coming from behind to win, 1-6, 7-6, 11-9, over Erin Gray.
The Bulldogs return to action on April 21, when they head to Nashville, Tenn., for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
