BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University basketball team officially picked up its second commitment of the 2006-07 signing period on Thursday as the Bulldogs received a national-letter-of-intent from Andy King, a 6-foot-8 forward/center from Omaha, Neb.
"We are very excited to have Andy as a part of our program," said Samford head coach Jimmy Tillette. "He is a good student and a very skilled basketball player. I think that his size and shooting ability will be a great asset to our team."
As a senior in 2005-06, King averaged 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game at Creighton Prep High School in Omaha, Neb. He possesses solid size at 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds and has the ability to step outside and drain the 3-point shot.
King joins Gabriel Bermudez as Samford's commitments for the upcoming 2006-07 campaign.
Bermudez, a 6-4 guard from Miami, Fla., signed with the Bulldogs during the early signing period on Nov. 10. Bermudez averaged 8.1 points and 8.3 assists per game as a junior at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School.
The Samford University basketball team concluded its 2005-06 season with a 20-11 overall record, its best finish since 1999-2000.
The Bulldogs ended Ohio Valley Conference play with a 14-6 record and earned a second-place finish in the league's standings. Samford advanced to the championship game of the 2006 OVC Tournament and earned its best finish in three years in the league.
