Baseball Heads To Tennessee Tech For Key Conference Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will travel to Tennessee Tech for a key Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1:05 p.m., and a single game on Sunday, also at 1:05 p.m.

Samford enters the series with a record of 27-22 overall and 16-5 in OVC play after sweeping a three-game series from Morehead State last weekend. Samford currently has a three-game lead in the OVC standings on second-place Jacksonville State and Eastern Illinois with six conference games remaining.

TTU heads into the series with a record of 17-31 overall and 10-11 in conference play after losing two-of-three games at Jacksonville State last weekend.

Parker Gargis currently leads Samford in batting average (.389). He also leads the team in RBI (43), hits (65) and doubles (12). John Morgan currently leads the team in runs scored (40), while Garrett Rice is the team-leader in home runs (7). Samford is scheduled to start Josh Ehmke (9-2, 2.97 ERA) on the mound in game one. Eric Lassiter (5-4, 3.74 ERA) will start the second game, and David Knapp (5-4, 4.07 ERA) is the scheduled starter for game three for the Bulldogs.

Since joining the OVC before the 2004 season, Samford has a record of 6-0 against Tennessee Tech. Last season, Samford swept the Golden Eagles in Birmingham by scores of 2-1, 6-2 and 11-6.
