BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford junior place-kicker Shannon Fleming was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Specialist of the Week when the conference released its weekly football awards on Sunday.

In Samford's season-opening 37-7 win over Miles College on Aug. 31, Fleming was 3-for-3 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra points. He connected on field goals from 42, 23 and 22 yards out.

Fleming accounted for 13 of the team's 37 points in helping lead the Bulldogs' to their fifth-straight season-opening win.

Samford returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 when the Bulldogs play at Georgia Tech at 2:30 p.m. Central.
