Samford senior quarterback Jefferson Adcock was one of 38 Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) players to be named semifinalists for the Draddy Trophy, which recognizes combined academic success, football performance and community leadership.
The semifinalists were announced by the National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame (NFF) on Wednesday.
Adcock has started 24 of the 27 games he has played at Samford, and he is currently leading the team in passing for the third-straight season. Adcock currently ranks fifth in school history in career passing (4,084 yds.) and sixth in career total offense (4,501 yds.).
In the classroom, Adcock posted a 3.439 GPA, and he received his undergraduate degree in May, 2007. He is currently enrolled in Samford's MBA program.
Adcock was named to the Ohio Valley Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07. He has also been named to Samford's Dean's List in Fall 2004, Spring 2005 and Spring 2006. Adcock was inducted into Samford's chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society in the spring of 2007.
The NFF Awards Committee will select and announce up to 15 finalists on Oct. 25. Each finalist will be recognized as part of the 2007 National Scholar- Athlete Class, receiving an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship. The Draddy winner, who will receive a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship, will be announced at the NFF's Annual Awards Dinner on December 4 at the prestigious Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. A total distribution of more than $300,000 in scholarships will be awarded that evening.
