BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Samford senior quarterback Jefferson Adcock was named the one of the National Football Players of the Week by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette on Wednesday. Adcock had a record-setting performance in last week's 59-52 win at Tennessee Tech.
In Saturday's game, Adcock threw for a Samford record 472 yards. He completed 29-of-40 passes in the game, including a career-high five touchdowns.
Adcock's five touchdown passes were one short of the school record in that category. He completed touchdown passes from 50, three, 40, 24 and 61 yards out. Three of Adcock's touchdown passes were thrown to Jeff Moore, who also set a Samford record with 260 receiving yards.
Adcock is currently leading the Bulldogs in passing for the third season in a row. For the year, he has 1,809 yards passing and 13 touchdowns. He currently ranks third in Samford history in career total offense with 5,484 yards, and he ranks fifth in career passing yards with 5,062.
Earlier in the week, Adcock was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the Ohio Valley Conference.
Adcock and the Bulldogs return home this week to take on in-state rival Jacksonville State. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium.
