Women's Basketball Hosts Preseason Favorite Southeast Missouri Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Southeast Missouri in a league game Tuesday night at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 6-3 overall and 0-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play after a 76-63 loss to Jacksonville State on Dec. 5. SEMO is currently 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play after a 66-60 win over Tennessee Tech on Dec. 8.

Samford and Southeast Missouri are meeting for the 12th time, with SEMO holding a 9-2 advantage in the series. The teams last met in the semifinals of last season's OVC Tournament, with SEMO coming out with a 57-51 win.

Samford's top two leading scorers and its leading rebounder so far this season are freshmen. Freshman guard Emily London leads the team in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game. Freshman forward Savannah Hill is second on the team in scoring at 9.9 points per game, and she leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.7 boards per contest.

Senior Taryn Towns leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.1 assists per game, while London is second in assists, averaging 2.9 per game. Monica Maxwell is second on the team in rebounding, with an average of 3.8 per game.

Tuesday night's game marks Samford's first game since Dec. 5, as the Bulldogs have taken time off for finals.
