CLEMSON, S.C. ---- The Samford track and field team set for new school records for the men and the women over the two-day event at the Clemson Tiger Invitational this weekend. The Bulldogs dominated the mile and the 3000-meter event taking two of the top three spots in the men's and women's events.
Junior distance runner Katherine Herring took first place in the women's mile, setting a new school record of five minutes. In the men's mile, freshman distance runner Blaise Carie came in third with a time of 4:20.
Junior Lauren Blankenship took the top spot in the women's 3000-meter event, while junior Drew Anderwald took third in the same event for the men. Blankenship ran a time of 9:55, and Anderwald had a Samford record-breaking time of 8:37.
In the competition on Friday, Cameron Bean set a new personal best and a new Samford record in the 5000-meter event as he came in first place with a time of 14:58. Cameron Cardwell also set a new personal record as well as a new Samford women's record in the pole vault with a height of 11'6".
With this successful weekend, the Bulldogs take a week to prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships. Samford will travel to Charleston, Ill., Feb. 23-24 for compete in the Indoor Championships hosted by Eastern Illinois University.
