BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Despite inclement weather, the Samford men's tennis team defeated in-state rival Jacksonville State to nab their first win of the 2007 season and their first win in the conference. The Bulldogs took the doubles point and five of the six singles points to put the Gamecocks away Tuesday.

In the No. 2 doubles court, Samford duo Stuart Misner and Hank Grant defeated Scott Robertson and Andres Amores, 8-3, while Manuel Miletic and Brian Dushock beat Chris Duke and Eduardo Saratt, 8-1, on the No. 3 court. Bulldogs Renan Silveira and Sam Huffman were leading Joey Unkenholz and Bernardo Bachino, 7-6, before the match was suspended.

In singles, Renan Silveira defeated Scott Robertson in the No. 1 court (6-2, 7-5). Stuart Misner defeated Bernardo Bachino in the No. 2 court (7-5, 5-7, 6-4), No. 3 Sam Huffman beat Andres Amores (6-1, 6-0), Manuel Miletic beat Eduardo Saratt at the No. 4 spot (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Brian Dushock defeated Diego Pazsoldan in the No. 6 court, 6-1, 6-1. Hank Grant lost to Chris Duke, 2-6, 6-2, 10-6.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday, Feb. 16, as they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on Clemson University. For results of Friday's match, go to samfordsports.com.
