BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- In nine hard-fought matches, the Samford men's tennis team fell to 1-3 (1-0 OVC) on the year as No. 23-ranked Clemson swept Friday's match from the Bulldogs. Taking eight out of the nine matches played, Clemson moves to 10-2 on the season.

Samford only win came on the No. 3 court as Bulldog duo Sam Huffman and Renan Silveira defeated Ike Belk and Rok Bizjak of Clemson, 8-4. In other doubles matches, Samford's Stuart Misner and Hank Grant dropped a challenging 9-8 (8-6) decision to Clemson duo Jarmaine Jenkins and Paul Koenke in the No. 2 court. On the No. 1 court Bradley Weaver and Kelwin De Wet fell to Clement Reix and Ryan Young of Clemson, 8-5.

Clemson claimed all the singles points, starting in the No. 1 court as Jenkins defeated Silveira, 7-5, 7-5. Misner fell in the No. 2 court to Reix in a tough 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 match, and Huffman dropped the No. 3 match to Young, 6-1, 6-1. Bizjak defeated Grant on the No. 4 court (6-4, 6-2), Carlos Alvarez took the No. 5 match from Manuel Miletic (6-2, 6-2), and Kevin Fleck defeated Brian Dushock on the No. 6 court (6-1, 6-4).

"I am very proud of how our team competed tonight," Samford head coach Kemper Baker said. "However, we must do a better job of converting on break points if we are going to be successful against quality opponents. Now we will go back to work and prepare for a tough road trip to Davidson and South Carolina."

Samford will travel next weekend to take on Davidson and South Carolina. Match play against Davidson will begin Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1:30 p.m., and the Bulldogs will take on South Carolina, Sunday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. For a full recap and results, visit www.samfordsports.com.
