ATLANTA ---- The Samford women's tennis team moves to 2-1 (1-0 OVC) as the Bulldogs split this weekend's matches against Georgia State and Kennesaw State. The Bulldogs fell to Georgia State Friday, 5-2, but bounced back with a sweep over Kennesaw State on Saturday.
The Georgia State Panthers swept the doubles round in Friday's match, and took three out of five from Samford. Bulldogs Emily White and Whitnie Warren were the only Samford women who came out with wins.
On Saturday, Samford took all seven points from Kennesaw State, handing the Owls their sixth-straight loss and giving the Bulldogs their second win of the season.
"I was really proud of the girls' effort overall this weekend," Samford head coach Terri Sisk said. "I thought the girls played a tough match against a really good team at Georgia State. With that being our second match of the year, you could tell that we lack match experience. However, I think if we played the same match three weeks later into the season, there would be different results."
The Samford women will next be in action on Saturday, March 3, as they face OVC opponent Southeast Missouri. Match play begins at noon at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion on the Samford campus.
