Women's Basketball Game Notes In PDF Format

The Samford women's basketball team will play host to Tennessee Tech Tuesday night in a first-round game in the 2007 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. The game is the final game in 45-year old Seibert Hall.
The winner of Tuesday night's game advances to Friday's semifinal game at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Samford, the fourth seed in the tournament finished the regular-season with a record of 17-12 overall and 12-8 in OVC play. Samford earned a first-round home game with its 70-49 win over Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon.
Samford heads into the game having won six of its last seven games. The Bulldogs have posted a record of 7-4 in Seibert Hall this season. The game will be the final home game for Samford's three seniors, Chelsee Insell, Veronica Pike and Tish Pilkerton. The group holds the program record for wins in a four-year period with 61.
Samford is led in scoring by Alex Munday, averaging 13.8 points per game. Pike leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.1 rebounds per game. Taryn Towns is the team leader in assists, dishing out 2.5 assists per game.
Tennessee Tech is the fifth seed in the eight-team tournament. The Golden Eagles are currently 12-17 overall and 11-9 in conference play. Tennessee Tech last played on Thursday, Feb. 22, when the Golden Eagles fell at Murray State, 80-79 in overtime.
Tennessee Tech is 2-14 in road games so far this season. Tech is led in scoring by Kendall Cavin, averaging 14.1 points per game. Kristina Tyler leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.3 boards per contest.
Samford and Tennessee Tech are meeting for the ninth time, with Tech holding a 6-2 advantage in the series. The teams split the regular-season series, with each team winning at home. Samford won the first game, 66-44, in Seibert Hall, and Tech took game two, 62-55, in Cookeville, Tenn.
Tuesday night is Red & White Night at Seibert Hall. All fans are encouraged to wear a red or white shirt to the game to support the Bulldogs. The most enthusiastic fan wearing a red or white shirt will have a chance to win a valuable prize. The athletics department will be handing out white shirts at the game while supplies last.
Tuesday night's game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off from Seibert Hall. The game will be broadcast on WVSU-FM 91.1 or worldwide on the internet at www.al.com/wvsu. However, due to the overlap with the men's basketball game at Murray State at 7:30 p.m., neither game will be broadcast in its entirety. The radio coverage will alternate between the women's and men's games.
The radio coverage of the women's game will start at 6:45 p.m., with the AmSouth Bank Pre-game Show and lead to a 7:00 p.m., tip-off. Jeremy Neisser will call the action from Seibert Hall. Once the women's game goes to halftime, radio coverage will join the men's broadcast in progress, featuring Justin Firesheets. When the men's game goes to halftime, the radio feed will switch back to the women's game, which will be around the midway point of the second half. At the conclusion of the women's game, coverage will again alternate back to the men's game and will carry that game until its conclusion.
