BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford women's tennis team closed out its weekend of play Sunday with a win against the Mercer Bears. The Bulldogs defeated the Bears, 6-1, and improve to 6-2 (4-0 OVC).
Samford came out and set the tone with a sweep of the doubles point. Bulldog duo Emily White and Sarah McKey bounced back big from Saturday's loss with an 8-3 win in the No. 1 court.
The Bulldogs then went on a 5-0 run in singles to close out the match in victory. Anna Jackson sparked the streak, bouncing back from her loss against Murray State Saturday to take the No. 1 match in three sets.
Bethany Benson lost a tough one in at the No. 6 court in three sets to give the Bears their only win of the day.
The Bulldogs will jump back into conference action this Thursday, March 15, as they take on Eastern Illinois. The match will be a double-header with the Bulldog men and will kick off at 2 p.m. in the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion.
