Baseball Falls To Purdue, 8-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Purdue baseball team plated six runs in the top of the second inning on its way to an 8-1 win at Samford Friday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

Samford drops to 10-9 with the loss, while Purdue improves to 6-6.

Samford was led at the plate by Kyle Krebs, going 2-for-3 on the day. Michael Marseco drove in Samford's lone run of the day in a 1-for-3 performance. Trent Hill (2-3) pitched 6.0 innings giving up six runs on five hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.

For Purdue, Kyle Reesing was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Ryne White was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for the Boilermakers. Jordan Comadena and Eric Nielsen also had two hits apiece for Purdue.

Josh Lindblom (2-1) pitched 8.0 innings, surrendering a run on four hits to pick up the win on the mound for Purdue.

In the top of the second inning, the game's first run was scored when Nick Overmyer hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Dan Black for a 1-0 Purdue lead. Reesing then hit a three-run home run to left field to make the score 4-0. Later in the inning, White hit a two-run home run to center field for a 6-0 Purdue lead.

Samford plated its run in the bottom of the third inning. Marseco doubled to left field to drive in John Morgan to cut the Boilermakers' lead to 6-1.

Purdue added two runs in the top of the ninth inning to make the final score 8-1. Comadena doubled to left-center field to drive in Reesing for a 7-1 lead. Later in the inning, Andy Preston reached base on a fielder's choice to drive in Comadena for the game's final run.

Samford and Purdue will play game two of their three-game series Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
