Baseball Takes Third Game At Mercer, 4-2

MACON, Ga. - Kyle Krebs and Parker Gargis each homered to help lead the Samford baseball team to a 4-2 win in the third game of a three-game series at Mercer Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Samford improves to 5-7 on the season. Mercer's record drops to 10-7 with the loss.

For Samford, Gargis went 2-for-4 at the plate with his fourth home run of the season. Krebs' home run was the first of his Samford career. Krebs was 1-for-3 at the plate for the Bulldogs.

Josh Ehmke (2-1) pitched 7.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out seven batters to earn the win on the mound for Samford. Joseph Edens pitched the final 1.1 innings to earn his fourth save of the season.

For Mercer, Billy Shaughnessy went 4-for-4 with an RBI, while Matt Crawford was 2-for-4 for the Bears. Justin Boyette (1-2) tossed 6.0 innings, giving up four runs on six hits to take the loss for Mercer.

Samford jumped on top first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Krebs and Gargis each hit their home runs in the first inning for a 2-0 Samford lead.

The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 3-0 with a run in the top of the third inning. Krebs scored from third base when Gargis hit into a double play for a three-run Samford lead.

Mercer came back with a run of its own in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Samford lead to 3-1. Josh Thompson singled to center field to drive in Crawford for the Bears' first run of the game.

Samford plated another run in the top of the sixth inning when Bear Burnett scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-1.

Mercer scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final score 4-2. Shaughnessy singled down the right-field line to drive in Thompson for the final run of the game.

Samford will return to action on Tuesday, March 6, when the Bulldogs play host to Memphis at 2:00 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs and Tigers will also meet on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
