Samford Women Tee Off In South Alabama Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University women's golf team tees off Monday, March 5, in the University of South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational. The two-day event will be held at the Azalea City Golf Course near the University of South Alabama.

This is the second consecutive week of match play in which the Bulldogs will compete with the Jaguars. Last week, both teams competed in the Ann Rhoads Classic hosted by Birmingham-Southern College. While Samford finished 14th in last week's tournament, South Alabama came in fourth place, 38 strokes better than the Bulldogs.

The field for the 2007 USA Lady Jaguar Invitational consists of 20 teams, five Alabama teams including Samford, UAB, Jacksonville State, Troy and host South Alabama. Other teams in the tournament are fellow Ohio Valley Conference competitor Austin Peay, Arkansas State, Belmont, Centenary, Florida Atlantic, Jackson State, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, Nicholls State, Southern Mississippi, Western Carolina and Winthrop.

The tournament begins at 8:30 with a shotgun start, and will conclude Tuesday, March 6.
