JACKSONVILLE, Ala. ---- The Samford men's tennis team dropped its first conference match Tuesday at Jacksonville State, 4-3. The Bulldogs fall to 11-6 overall, 6-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Samford started out the match taking the doubles point, 2-1, as Bulldog pairs Silveira/Huffman and Misner/Grant defeated their opponents in the first two courts. However, the Gamecocks came back to take four out of six singles matches to hand Samford its first conference loss of the season.
Renan Silveira picked up the first singles match in the No. 1 court, going three sets with Scott Robertson. No. 2 player Stuart Misner also went three tough sets with JSU's Bernardo Bachino, as did Hank Grant with Andres Amores at the No. 5 court, before falling to their opponents. Sam Huffman grabbed the second win for the Bulldogs at the No. 4 court, defeating Chris Duke, 7-5, 6-4.
The Samford men will back in action this Friday, April 6, for their last home match of the season. The Bulldogs will be taking on conference foe Tennessee Tech at 1 p.m.
