Baseball Drops Final Game At Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State's Matt Clark pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Eagles baseball team to an 8-0 win over Samford in the final game of the teams' Ohio Valley Conference series Sunday afternoon at MSU's Allen Field.

With the loss, Samford drops to 23-26 overall and 8-13 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Morehead State improves to 15-31 overall and 8-13 in conference play.

For Samford, Bear Burnett led the Bulldogs, going 3-for-4 with a double. Chandler Tidwell took the loss on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits.

Morehead State was led at the plate by Christian Winstanley, going 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Ryan Kinder went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Eagles. Clark gave up no runs on five hits in picking up the win on the mound.

Morehead State scored three runs in the second inning, four in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning. In the second inning, Chris McCaslin, Nick Bobrowski and Dustin Miles drove in a run each for a 3-0 MSU lead. In the fifth inning, Winstanley, Marc Midden, Bobrowski and Miles drove in a run each to make the score 7-0. Kinder drove in the lone run in the sixth inning to make the final score 8-0.

Samford will return to action on Saturday, May 12, when the Bulldogs play host to Tennessee Tech in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
