BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford University honored its student-athletes for academic success with its annual ice cream social Tuesday afternoon at the Rotunda Club on Samford's campus.

Three awards were given out at the event, the 3.0 Club (3.0-3.49 GPA), the Dean's List Club (3.5-3.749 GPA) and the Highest Honors (3.75-4.0 GPA).

For the fourth year in a row, Samford inducted a new class into the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. To be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.40 or higher.

Teams were also honored for their scores in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate (APR). Three Samford teams, women's cross country, women's basketball and women's golf, had perfect scored of 1,000. Scoring in the 90th percentile for their sport were women's soccer, women's track and field, football and men's basketball. The women's golf team was also honored as the "Team of Distinction" for their performance both in the classroom and on the golf course.
