July 17, 2007

CHICAGO - Former Samford pitcher Ehren Wassermann has been called up to the Chicago White Sox from the AAA Charlotte Knights, the White Sox announced Tuesday afternoon.

So far this season in Charlotte, Wassermann has posted a 2-4 record and a 2.11 ERA in 42.2 innings of work. He has also recorded 33 strikeouts so far this season.

Wassermann is only the third player in Samford history to make the major leagues, and he is the first since Wendell Magee was called up to the Philadelphia Phillies in August, 1996.

Wassermann was a member of the Samford baseball team in 2002 and 2003. In his two seasons in a Bulldog uniform, Wassermann posted a record of 11-11 and an ERA of 5.08.
