BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford football team practiced for a little over an hour and a half in shells Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for their first Ohio Valley Conference game of the 2007 season.
Samford takes on Southeast Missouri Saturday night at Seibert Stadium. The Redhawks currently rank fourth in the OVC in scoring defense, and they are second in the league in rushing offense.
Individually, SEMO's Timmy Holloway is third in the OVC in rushing per game, averaging 117.3 yards per game, while Samford's Chris Evans ranks fifth, rushing for 90.0 yards per contest.
"We will need to be able to run the ball, but we will need to be balanced offensively as well," Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. "These are two well-matched teams, and if neither team turns the ball over, the game will probably be decided by the kicking game."
Sullivan added that he likes the way his team has continued to work throughout the season.
"We are a very young team," Sullivan said. "But, I am really excited by our players' effort and attitude"
Samford will hold its final full practice of the week on Thursday at 4 p.m. The team will hold a walk-through Friday at 4 p.m. Both workouts will be held at Seibert Stadium.
Saturday's game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard live on the Samford Radio Network. The flagship station for the network is WVSU-FM 91.1. The game can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.al.com/wvsu, and it can be viewed on the internet at www.ovcsports.tv.
