BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford football team practiced for about an hour in shorts and helmets Sunday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs began preparing for Saturday's Ohio Valley Conference game at Eastern Kentucky.
"We are working some preliminary things from Eastern Kentucky," Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. "We are introducing their basic schemes. We've started to study them, but we will get more in depth with it tomorrow (Monday). Today is more of a learning day for the players."
Samford is coming off a 26-21 win over Southeast Missouri in the Bulldogs' OVC opener Saturday night. The Bulldogs trailed, 21-7 in the third quarter, before scoring the final 19 points of the game to take the five-point win.
"I don't think there is any question that our most productive quarter was the fourth quarter," Sullivan said. "Our kids just gained confidence and got stronger as the game went on. In the fourth quarter, we kept the ball for over 10 minutes offensively, and after they scored on the first drive of the third quarter, we only allowed them one first down the rest of the game."
Samford will take Monday off before returning to practice Tuesday afternoon.
Saturday's game at Eastern Kentucky is scheduled for a 2 p.m. Central kickoff from Richmond, Ky. The game can be heard live on the Samford Radio Network. The flagship station for the network is WVSU-FM 91.1. The game can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.al.com/wvsu, and it can be viewed on the internet at www.ovcsports.tv.
