RICHMOND, Ky. - The Samford football team suffered its first Ohio Valley Conference loss of the season in a 43-20 setback at Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon at Roy Kidd Stadium.

"We knew we couldn't turn the ball over and we had to be good in the kicking game to win," Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. "It's disappointing, because we all came up here hoping to have a stellar game. But, our kids played hard and they left it all out there on the field."

EKU took the lead back with 8:57 to go in the second quarter when Mark Dunn scored on a four-yard run. Long's extra point gave the Colonels a 14-7 lead. Samford cut the lead to 14-10 when Prevost kicked a 25-yard field goal with 3:55 to go in the second quarter. EKU struck again just before halftime when Holland hit Kyle Barber on a 26-yard touchdown and Long added the PAT to make the score 21-10 with 20 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

EKU scored on the first drive of the second half when Washington ran 26 yards for a touchdown with 13:33 to go in the third quarter, and the PAT gave the Colonels a 28-10 lead.
