BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Home games with three-time defending national champion Appalachian State and cross-town rival Miles College, and a road game at Ole Miss highlight the 2008 Samford football schedule, released on Monday.
The 2008 season will be Samford's first as a member of the Southern Conference.
"We are excited about moving into a new conference and about our trip to Ole Miss," Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. "We are also looking forward to playing a cross-town rival in Miles. This should be an exciting year and a very challenging schedule."
Samford opens the season at home against West Georgia on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs will then play host to Miles College on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.

After an open date, Samford will open play in the Southern Conference on Sept. 27, when the Bulldogs play at Elon. Samford then travels to Western Carolina on Oct. 4.
Samford plays host to three-time defending Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) national champion Appalachian State on Oct. 11. The weekend of the Appalachian State game will be Family Weekend at Samford.
