SPARTANBURG, S.C. -
Samford goalkeeper Cayley Winters was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. The Bulldogs' senior from Littleton, Colo., played a pivotal role in the team's 1-0-1 SoCon start last week.

She tallied a 110-minute shutout against SoCon preseason-favorite UNC Greensboro on Sunday and played 84:33 versus Elon in leading the Bulldogs to a 3-0 shutout victory. Winters registered four key saves in Samford's hard-fought 0-0 draw against UNC Greensboro on Sunday.
Winters also increased her career shutout total to 17 and is only five shutouts shy of setting the school's all-time record. In Samford's matches against Elon and UNC Greensboro, she improved her goals-against average this season to 0.76, which is ranked second in the SoCon. Winters is also ranked second in the SoCon with an .867 save percentage.
