Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford University soccer team fought its way to a 0-0 draw against the Wofford Terriers on Sunday in a Southern Conference duel held at Snyder Field. The scoreless tie was the Bulldogs' second in conference play this season.

In Sunday's draw, Samford (4-8-2, 3-1-2 SoCon) outshot Wofford (2-7-5, 1-3-2 SoCon) 11-4 with nine of the attempts being on-goal. The Bulldogs also registered 15 corner kicks in the game as compared to five for the Terriers.

Samford's Alyssa Whitehead played all 110 minutes in goal and picked up her first career shutout. The Bulldogs' 6-foot-3 freshman from Hattiesburg, Miss., has gone 198-consecutive minutes without allowing a score. Whitehead made a key save Sunday against Wofford's Blair Green to preserve the shutout.

The Terriers' goalkeeper Katie McChesney finished the match with nine saves and earned her second shutout of the 2008 campaign.

Samford controlled much of the offensive possession in Sunday's game. The Bulldogs' offensive attack was led by Caroline Baxter, Amber Cress and Shannon Healy. Baxter paced the team with three shot attempts, while Cress and Healy both finished with two each. All three of the aforementioned players also tallied two shots on-goal apiece.

Sunday's overtime contest was Samford's third of the season. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs fell to Arkansas in double overtime 1-0 in the championship game of the 2008 adidas Gamecock Classic. Then, on Sept. 28, Samford played to a 0-0 draw against the preseason-favorite UNC Greensboro.

Wofford played in its seventh overtime affair of the 2008 season and sixth of which went into the second extra period. The seven overtime matches are a single-season program record.

In the three meetings in the all-time series between Samford and Wofford, two have resulted in 0-0 ties and both were played at Snyder Field.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs return home to face the College of Charleston Cougars at Bulldog Field.
