BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. -
The Samford University women's golf team will participate in its fourth tournament of the 2008 fall season this weekend as the Bulldogs square off against some of the region's top teams at the D.R. Investments Lady Colonel Collegiate held at The Bridges Golf Club.
The Bridges Golf Club is Mississippi's only Arnold Palmer signature championship golf course and the first resort course in the world to be granted the Audubon Silver Signature Status by Audubon International.
The D.R. Investments Lady Colonel Collegiate will be held at the prestigious course on Monday and Tuesday. The teams are scheduled to play the first two rounds of the competition Monday and the final 18 holes Tuesday.
Samford enters the two-day tournament with aspirations of bouncing back its 17th-place performance at the 2008 Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate last week. At the event which was hosted by New Mexico State University, the Bulldogs finished with a total team score of 957 (320-316-321).
Samford's 2008-09 roster is comprised of two seniors, three juniors and one freshman.
The Bulldogs will be led this season by seniors Kellie O'Connell and Maria Troche, as well as juniors Heather Arnold, Sara Hunt and Katelyn Stanier. Samford's lone underclassman on the roster this year is true freshman Sarah Butts. Butts is a native of Carrollton, Ga.
Following Monday's opening 36 holes at the D.R. Investments Lady Colonel Collegiate, the Samford University women's golf team will return to action Tuesday for third-round action at The Bridges Golf Club in Bay St. Louis, Miss.
