BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball staff has signed of Hannah Dawson for its 2008-09 signing class, head coach Mike Morris announced on Wednesday.

"We are very excited about having Hannah join our basketball family," Morris said. "She is a tremendous player and an even better person.

"She really fills a need for our team, having the versatility to play either the three or the four," Morris said. "She can be a big guard who has size and can shoot the three or she can score around the goal."

Dawson is a 5-11 forward from Shelbyville Central High School in Shelbyville, Tenn. Dawson has averaged 11.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Dawson was named to the All-District and All-Region teams. She was also named to the All-Tournament team for the State Championship Tournament in Tennessee.

Morris said he expects to add two more signees later this week.

Samford will open the regular season Friday night at Jacksonville State. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off from JSU's Pete Mathews Coliseum.
