Women's Basketball To Host New Orleans In Home Opener Friday Night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to the New Orleans Lady Privateers in the Bulldogs' home opener Friday night at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 2-0 after a 61-55 overtime win at Alabama Tuesday night. New Orleans is also 2-0 after a 61-47 win against Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday evening.

Samford and New Orleans are meeting for the fourth time, with UNO holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. Last season, Samford defeated the Lady Privateers, 49-40, on the first day of the Four Points By Sheraton Invitational, hosted by UNO.

In last season's meeting, Samford trailed, 25-13 at halftime, but the Bulldogs outscored the Lady Privateers, 36-15 in the second half to win, 49-40. Monica Maxwell led Samford with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Megan Wilderotter followed with nine points for the Bulldogs.

For this season, Samford is led in scoring by Maxwell, averaging 16.5 points per game. Karmen Smith is second on the team in scoring, with an average of 14.5 points per contest.

Maxwell is also the team's leading rebounder so far, pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game, while Smith is second with an average of 5.0 boards per contest.

Emily London is the team's leader in assists, with an average of 3.5 assists per game. Smith is averaging 3.0 assists per game.

New Orleans is currently led by Jada Frazier, averaging 12.0 points per game. Candice McGee is the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game. Brittany Helm and Nicole Holmes share the team lead in assists with an average of 5.0 assists per game.
