Football Begins Preparation For Georgia Southern

Nov. 4, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in full pads Tuesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Saturday's game at Georgia Southern, which will be televised live on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS).

Samford enters the game with a record of 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Southern Conference play after a 28-27 loss to No. 18 Furman on Saturday. Georgia Southern is currently 5-4 overall and 3-3 in SoCon play after a 44-41, triple-overtime win over The Citadel on Saturday.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he has been impressed with what he has seen from Georgia Southern so far.

"They're a talented football team," Sullivan said. "They have great speed. They're defensive end (Dakota Walker) may be the quickest guy we've played against, he can really run. (Head Coach) Chris (Hatcher) does a good job."

Georgia Southern is among the SoCon's leading offenses, ranking high in the league in scoring offense (3rd-35.1 ppg.) and passing offense (3rd-238.8 ypg.).

Samford has one of the top defenses in the league. The Bulldogs lead the conference in scoring defense (19.4 ppg.), total defense (313.4 ypg.), rushing defense (77.6 ypg.) and opponent first downs (16.0 pg.).

Samford will practice again Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. The team will also practice Thursday at 3:45 p.m., before departing Friday morning for Statesboro, Ga.

Saturday's game at Georgia Southern is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (CT) kickoff from GSU's Allen E. Paulson Stadium. The game can be heard live on the Samford Football Radio Network. The flagship station for the network is WVSU-FM 91.1. The game can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/groups/wvsu/.
