SPARTANBURG, S.C. ---- Samford senior outside hitter Ashley Adams was named Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week as voted on by the conference's volleyball sports information directors, announced the league office on Tuesday. This is the third time the Columbus, Ohio native has received the honor this season, the most for a Bulldog in the Samford program's history.
"Ashley went through a couple weeks where demands on her time where extensive," Samford head coach Derek Schroeder said. "It was nice to see her, this past week, get through that, relax a little bit, and then get refocused on volleyball results. When Ashley is on she terminates rallies and is probably the most dominant offensive threat in the conference."
Adams helped lead the Bulldogs to three sweeps this past week over Chattanooga, Georgia Southern and Davidson. On the week, the senior averaged 4.11 kills per set and had a .392 hitting percentage while also grabbing 11 digs and seven blocks.
With the win over Davidson, the Bulldogs became the first team in Samford volleyball history to go undefeated at home. Samford won 12 matches at home; half of those were 3-0 sweeps. The Bulldogs continue to led the North division of the Southern Conference with a 24-3 overall record, 13-1 in conference action.
Also nominated for this week's award were UNC Greensboro's Kaitlyn Nortz, College of Charleston's Emily Sawin, Elon's Traci Stewart, Furman's Alison West, Chattanooga's Aurore Kullak and The Citadel's Tatum Jestila.
Adams and the Bulldogs will head to North Carolina this weekend to continue conference play. Samford will meet up with Western Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT and Appalachian State at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday.
