Women's Basketball Game Notes In PDF Format

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to the UNC Greensboro Spartans Monday evening in a Southern Conference contest at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 7-3 overall and 2-1 in Southern Conference play after a 67-55 win over Elon on Dec. 19. UNC Greensboro is currently 6-6 overall and 3-0 in SoCon play after a 95-51 non-conference loss against Illinois State on Dec. 22. Monday night's game is the first ever meeting between Samford and UNC Greensboro.

Samford head coach Mike Morris enters the game just one win away from his 100th career win. Morris, the winningest coach in the history of the program, has a record of 99-85, now in his seventh season as a head coach, all at Samford.

Samford is led in scoring by sophomore forward Savannah Hill, averaging 12.8 points per game. Sophomore guard Emily London is second in scoring with an average of 11.3 points per game.

Hill is also the team's leader in rebounds per game, grabbing 5.4 per game. Junior forward Chika Okoli ranks second on the team in rebounding, pulling down 3.9 boards per contest.

London is the team leader in assists, dishing out 2.9 assists per game so far this season. Senior guard Karmen Smith and junior guard Monica Maxwell are tied for second on the team in assists, both averaging 2.0 assists per game.

UNC Greensboro is led by Gini Grimsley, averaging 10.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Lakiah Hyson is second in scoring with an average of 10.1 points per game.

As a team, Samford is currently the national leader in fewest turnovers per game. The Bulldogs average just 10.7 turnovers per game, the top average in the nation.

Samford is also ranked third in the nation in three-point field goal defense (21.3%). The Bulldogs also rank sixth in the country in turnover margin (8.11) and 10th in assist/turnover ratio (1.1).
