Women's Basketball Travels To Murray State For Key OVC Contest Saturday

MURRAY, Ky. - The Samford women's basketball team will play at Murray State in a key Ohio Valley Conference game Saturday at MSU's Regional Special Events Center.

Samford is currently in second place in the OVC with a 14-3 conference record, while the Lady Racers are fourth in the league with a 12-5 record in OVC games.

Samford is 21-6 overall, tying for the most wins in program history. The Bulldogs have won eight games in a row and are coming off a 71-60 win at Tennessee Tech on Thursday. MSU has an 18-7 overall record, and the Lady Racers are coming off a 62-59 win over Eastern Illinois last Saturday.

Samford and Murray State are meeting for the eighth time, with MSU holding a 4-3 advantage in the series. Earlier this season, Samford defeated Murray State, 62-60, on a last-second shot at the Pete Hanna Center on Dec. 20. Samford has never won at Murray State.

In Thursday's win at Tennessee Tech, Emily London scored 18 points and Monica Maxwell scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs. Savannah Hill added 11 points for Samford. Taryn Towns had eight points, six rebounds and seven assists in the win.

For the season, London leads Samford in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game. Maxwell is second on the squad in scoring with an average of 10.9 points per game.

Hill leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.8 rebounds per game. Alex Munday is second in the category, averaging 4.0 boards per contest.

Towns leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.9 assists per game. London is second on the team in assists, with an average of 2.4 assists per game.

Samford players rank in the top five in the OVC in several statistical categories. London ranks fifth in field goal percentage (51.2%) and second in three-point field goal percentage (47.6%). Towns ranks second in the league in assist-turnover ratio (2.12) and fifth in assists (3.93 apg.), while Maxwell ranks fifth in the league in three-point field goals made per game (2.07 pg.).
