JACKSONVILLE, Ala. ---- The Samford men's tennis team picked up its third win Tuesday at in-state rival Jacksonville State. The Bulldogs faced cold weather and brisk winds to eke out a 4-3 win over the Gamecocks. Samford improves to 3-4 on the season.
The non-conference match between conference foes was scheduled to be played on Feb. 13 but wintry weather forced the teams to reschedule the match-up for Feb. 26.
The Gamecocks stole the doubles point, taking two of three matches. However, the Bulldogs were able to walk away with one doubles win as No. 1 duo Delass/Silveira defeated Duke/Unkenholz, 9-7.
In the No. 1 court, Jordan Delass captured a win for the Bulldogs (d. Chris Duke, 6-2, 6-1) while Renan Silveira (d. Eduardo Saratt, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3), Hank Grant (d. Scott Robertson, 6-2, 6-0) and Oliver Reynolds (d. Steffen Solomon, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5) earned wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 courts, respectively.
The Samford men return to action on Saturday, March 8, as they open conference play at home with an afternoon match-up against Tennessee-Martin. Match play starts at 2 p.m.
