Samford Tennis Times Change Due To Rainy Forecast

March 14, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford tennis teams have a full schedule of play slated for this weekend, March 14 through March 16. The both squads will take on conference opponent Austin Peay, while the men also face Gadsden State and the women meet up with Houston. However, scheduled times have changed due to a rainy forecast for the weekend.

Both meetings with Austin Peay were slated for Saturday with the women beginning at 10 a.m. and the men following at 1 p.m. However, due to rain the women will play the Governors Friday, March 14, at 5 p.m. in the Pat M. Courington Indoor Tennis Pavilion while the men will play on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Bulldog men have also added another match to their schedule, taking on Gadsden State Saturday evening at 5 p.m. The women will meet up with Houston, as scheduled, on Sunday at noon.

The Bulldogs are fresh off a sweep of rival Jacksonville State on Thursday, with both the men and women moving to 2-0 in the conference. Both teams defeated their opponent by a score of 6-1. The women moved to 8-2 on the season while the men improved to 5-4.

The Austin Peay men hold a 1-7 record on the season and played their first conference matches this weekend against Jacksonville State and Samford. The squad had a strong fall season, finishing with a .708 win percentage after three tournaments. However, the start of the spring season has not been good to them.

The Austin Peay (0-7, 0-1 OVC) women are winless on the season so far and dropped their first conference match to Southeast Missouri last week. The Lady Goves are looking to bounce back and get into a groove but they must get past the OVC's top-ranked Bulldogs first.

Gadsden State comes from the junior college ranks and takes on Samford for the first time in history. The Bulldogs look to extend a three-match win streak against the Cardinals.

The Houston women (9-6, 0-2 C-USA) come in to take on the Bulldog women Sunday after snapping a two-match losing streak against Sam Houston. The meeting is the first between the two teams, as far as records show, and the Bulldogs also look to extend three-match win streak against the Cougars.
