Baseball Travels To Memphis For Two Midweek Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play two midweek games at Memphis this week. The teams will play Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs are currently 9-6 after sweeping a three-game series with Rider over the weekend. Samford won the games by scores of 3-1, 9-4 and 8-4.

Senior third baseman Michael Rutledge leads Samford in batting with a .386 batting average, seven doubles and 15 RBI. John Morgan is batting .383 and Wayne Miller has a .367 average. Jonathan Stephens (2-0, 2.52 ERA) and David Knapp (2-1, 3.22 ERA) have led the pitching staff so far.

The Tigers enter the week with a record of 7-10 after dropping two of three games to Southeast Missouri over the weekend. Trey Wiedman leads Memphis with a .382 batting average. Adam McClain is batting .311 for the Tigers. Scott McGregor has pitched a team-high 26.1 innings, and has posted a 4.78 ERA.

Samford and Memphis met in a two-game series last season at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Samford took both games from the Tigers, winning the games by scores of 2-1 and 1-0.
