Marseco Named OVC Player Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford junior shortstop Michael Marseco was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Player of the Week when the conference released its weekly awards on Monday.

In four games last week, Marseco batted .625 (10-for-16) with a double, a triple, a home run and eight RBI. He had a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .647.

The Bulldogs swept a three-game OVC series from Tennessee-Martin over the weekend, with Marseco batting .692 (9-for-13) with a double, a triple, a home run and seven RBI.

This marks the second time this season Marseco has been named the OVC's Player of the Week. He also received the honor on Mar. 10.

For the season, Marseco is leading the team with a .413 batting average, 31 hits and 22 RBI. He currently ranks second in the OVC in batting average and in hits.

Marseco and the Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Auburn at Regions Park. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, and it can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/groups/wvsu/.
