BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford track and field team will get back to business as they continue the outdoor season at the Alabama Relays this weekend, March 27-30. The annual event is hosted by the University of Alabama at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Complex on the Tuscaloosa campus.
The Bulldog come off a third place finished on both the men's and women's side at the Southern Miss Invitational on March 15th. Hillary Neal led the women, winning the 1500-meter run and setting a new Samford freshman record while also beating seniors Lauren Blankenship (second) and Britney Almaguer (fifth). Cameron Bean and Chas Keithan finished in the top two spots in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.
The four-day event begins Thursday morning with the heptathlon (100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash) at 9:30 a.m., and the decathlon (100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter dash) at 10:30 a.m. Events resume Friday morning with the second half of the decathlon (110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin, 1500-meter run) and heptathlon (long jump, javelin, 800-meter run) along with the men's and women's 10,000-meter races.
Saturday's events include all running events as well as the high jump, pole vault, javelin and shot put. Sunday's events are all relays and remaining field events.
