TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- The Samford women's golf team is just four strokes out of the lead after one round of play Friday in the Crimson Tide Classic. The Bulldogs are in second place, and trail the host team and 7th-ranked Alabama after day one of the three-day event at the Ol' Colony Golf Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Bulldogs are three strokes ahead of Kentucky and six strokes in front of No. 91 Jacksonville State and Ole Miss who are tied for fourth place. No. 18 LSU is in sixth place followed by Stetson at seventh, UAB at eighth, Murray State at ninth and South Alabama at tenth. Boston College and Troy round out the field of 12 at 11th and 12th places, respectively.
"Being ahead of teams like Kentucky, Ole Miss, LSU and Jacksonville State is incredible for us," Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks said. "I'm very proud of the way we have played today and I hope we can keep it us and keep our place in the front of the field."
Samford shot a first round total of 304 (+16) as a team. Sara Hunt and Maria Troche lead the Samford playing five as they are both tied at sixth place, shooting 75 in round one. Heather Arnold follows in a five-way tie at ninth place, shooting 76, while Courtney Warr (78) is tied at 17th place and Katelyn Stanier (79) is tied at 25th.
Round two of the Crimson Tide Classic kicks off at 8:15 a.m. Saturday morning with the first group of players.
