BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford football team practiced for a little over an hour in shorts and helmets Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The practice was the team's final full workout in preparation for Saturday's Southern Conference home game against Chattanooga, which will be televised live on SportSouth.
Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he was pleased with the way his team worked during Thursday's practice.
"I thought we had a good practice today," Sullivan said. "We went out in shorts today and finished up our game plan and game rehearsal. I thought we were able to get some good work in today."
Sullivan said he feels like his team has had a good week of preparation for Saturday's game against Chattanooga.
"We've had a good week," Sullivan said. "We're still a tired football team, but they fought their way through it and hopefully they will be fresh on Saturday."
Sullivan added that, at the midway point of the 2009 season, he has been pleased with the way several of the team's freshmen have stepped up this season.
"At the start of the year, there were some guys who you didn't know how they would do," Sullivan said. "On offense, (offensive lineman) George Allers and (tight end) Jacob Kirschenbaum have done well. (Offensive lineman) Charlie Sanford has also played well."
"On the defense, (linebackers) Darion Sutton and Durell Hill have really played well," Sullivan said. "Cameron Yaw, our kicker has also done a great job this year. We've had a lot of young guys who have stepped up."
Samford will hold a final walk-through for Saturday's game Friday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
Saturday's game against Chattanooga is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. In addition to the SportSouth broadcast, the game can also be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
