Women's Basketball Travels To Evansville Sunday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Samford women's basketball team will go on the road for the first time this season when the Bulldogs play at Evansville Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Samford enters the game with a record of 1-0 after a 59-46 win over in-state rival Jacksonville State to open the season Friday evening. Evansville is currently 0-1. The Purple Aces fell at home to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 77-68, Friday night.

In Friday night's win, Samford was led by junior forward Savannah Hill with 22 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Monica Maxwell scored 14 points, while junior guard Emily London added seven points and six rebounds.

In Evansville's loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Purple Aces were led by Jordan Lewis with 12 points. Kaylan Martin added 11 points for Evansville.

Samford and Evansville are meeting for just the second time, with the Purple Aces winning the only previous meeting. Last season, the teams met in the final game of the Samford Thanksgiving Classic. Evansville came away with a 58-54, double-overtime win over Samford.

In its 12 previous seasons, Samford has posted a record of 62-98 in road games. Last season's team posted the best road record in program history, going 11-3 in road games. This season, Samford has 14 road games on its schedule, with Sunday's game at Evansville marking Samford's first road game of the season.
