The Samford women's basketball team will take part in the UAB Thanksgiving Classic this weekend at Bartow Arena. Samford will take on North Texas Friday at 4 p.m., and Norfolk State Saturday at 1 p.m.
Samford enters the tournament with a record of 3-1 after a 76-49 loss at Maryland on Tuesday. Friday's and Saturday's games will mark Samford's first-ever meetings with both North Texas and Norfolk State.
North Texas currently has a record of 2-3 on the young season. The Mean Green is coming off an 83-73 win over Texas-Pan American on Wednesday.
Norfolk State enters the tournament with a record of 1-2 on the season. The Spartans last played against St. Paul's College, coming away with a 78-74 win on Nov. 20th.
Samford is led in scoring by junior forward Savannah Hill, averaging 17.8 points per game. Senior guard Monica Maxwell is averaging 12.3 points per game, while junior guard Emily London averages 12.0 points per game.
London leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.8 boards per contest. Hill ranks second on the team in rebounding with a 5.3 average.
London also leads the team in assists with 12. Senior guard Megan Wilderotter is second on the squad in assists with 10 through the first four games of the season.
North Texas is led in scoring by Brittney James, averaging 14.6 points per game. Niq'ky Hughes (11.6 ppg.) and Jasmine Godbolt (10.0 ppg.) are also averaging in double figures for the Mean Green.
For Norfolk State, Whitney Long is leading in the team in scoring with an average of 14.7 points per game. Marquilla Evans is averaging 14.0 points per game for the Spartans.
