The Samford women's basketball team will continue its current homestand by playing host to Furman in a Southern Conference contest Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford enters the game with a record of 6-1 overall and 1-0 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 74-52 win over Chattanooga on Monday.
Furman is currently 1-6 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Paladins last played at home against Davidson Monday evening, falling by a score of 81-78.
Samford and Furman are meeting for the just the third time, with Samford holding a 2-0 advantage in the series. Last season, Samford defeated Furman, 58-52 in Greenville, S.C., and the Bulldogs won by a score of 62-40 in Birmingham.
Samford is led in scoring by junior forward Savannah Hill, averaging 14.1 points per game. Junior guard Emily London is scoring 12.6 points per game, while senior guard Monica Maxwell has an average of 12.0 points per game.
Hill and London share the team lead in rebounding, each grabbing 4.7 boards per contest. Maxwell is third in rebounding, with an average of 4.6 rebounds per game.
London leads the team in assists so far this season with a total of 20 through the first seven games. Senior guard Megan Wilderotter has dished out 18 assists, while Hill has 17 assists to come in second and third respectively.
Furman is led in scoring by Lee Stephens, averaging 11.9 points per game. Kaitlin Murphy scored 9.1 points per game for the Paladins. Susan Troutman is the team-leader in rebounding pulling down 6.1 rebounds per game.
So far this season, Samford has out-rebounded its opponent in four of its first seven games, after winning the rebounding battle in just one game all of last season. Samford has a rebounding margin of +2.9 rebounds per game over its opponents so far this season, compared to last season's margin of -8.8 rebounds per game.
In its 12-plus seasons, the Samford women's basketball program has an all-time record of 86-76 in home games. Entering its third season in the Pete Hanna Center, the Bulldogs are 25-5 in their new home. Last season, Samford posted a record of 10-3 in games played at the Pete Hanna Center. So far this season, Samford is 2-0 in its home facility.
