Revised 2009 Bulldog Bash Schedule
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University softball team will not compete in the weekend's annual Bulldog Bash tournament, announced coaches and athletic department officials Wednesday afternoon.
Due to the occurrence of deaths in the family that have affected three Samford student-athletes, the administration has decided that it would not be in the best interest of the welfare of the team to compete this weekend. Samford will still host the event, which has been reduced to two days of competition.
No games will be played on Friday as originally scheduled. Tournament play will commence Saturday with a noon start. Gardner-Webb will meet Austin Peay in that first game, followed by a 2:15 p.m. matchup between the Runnin' Bulldogs and Southern Illinois. Saturday evening will wrap up with a 4 p.m. game featuring the Governors and Salukis.
Sunday's action will begin at 10 a.m. when Southern Illinois and Gardner Webb meet up again. The Salukis will then face the Governors once more at 12:15 p.m., before Austin Peay and Gardner Webb bring the tournament to a close at 2:30 p.m.
Samford will be back in action next weekend as it continues tournament play. The Bulldogs will go west and participate in the UTEP Invitational which begins Friday for the Bulldogs.
