The Samford University men's tennis team picked up its second Southern Conference victory of the 2009 campaign Tuesday as the Bulldogs rallied in singles play to earn a dramatic 4-3 win against the Georgia Southern Eagles at the Samford Tennis Center.
In Tuesday's come-from-behind league triumph, Samford (5-9, 2-2 SoCon) registered the final two wins in singles play to tally the 4-3 victory. The Bulldogs' Carson Kadi fought to a 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-0 win on court No. 3, while Oliver Reynolds outlasted the Eagles' Justin Flynn 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles match.
Georgia Southern (5-4, 1-1 SoCon) held a 3-2 advantage in Tuesday's competition prior to Kadi and Reynolds' heroics. The Bulldogs' Kadi and Reynolds both picked up their third-straight singles wins in the contest.
With its victory, Samford extended its winning streak to three-consecutive matches. On Sunday, the Bulldogs' cruised to a pair of lopsided triumphs against Murray State 6-1 and Gadsden State 7-0.
Samford won the doubles point Tuesday, but dropped three of the first four singles matches to trail Georgia Southern 3-2.
In doubles play, the Bulldogs' duo comprised of Carl Abalos and Reynolds earned an 8-5 victory on court No. 2, while Samford's combination of Richard Walsh and Kadi knocked off Georgia Southern's tandem of Philip Prins and Gregory Bekkers 8-6 on court No. 3.
The Bulldogs' Brian Dushock earned his third-straight victory in singles play Tuesday. On court No. 4, Samford's senior from West Palm Beach, Fla., breezed to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Georgia Southern's Alain Garrido.
The Samford men's tennis team will next be in action Friday at 2 p.m., as the Bulldogs welcome the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns to Birmingham, Ala., for a non-conference matchup to be held at the Samford Tennis Center.
