Women's Tennis Breaks Away From SoCon Play To Host Marquette

March 8, 2009

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's tennis team will continue its brief two-match homestand Monday at 1 p.m., as the Bulldogs welcome the Marquette Golden Eagles to the Samford Tennis Center for a challenging non-conference contest.

Samford (2-4) heads into the matchup looking to rebound from a 7-0 loss to Elon on Friday. Due to a recent rash of injuries, the Bulldogs were forced to play the Southern Conference contest with only five healthy players.

Marquette (11-5) enters Monday's meeting against Samford with a full head of steam after the Golden Eagles rallied for a 7-0 victory over Connecticut on March 1. Marquette has won three of its previous four matches.

Following Monday's non-conference match against Marquette, the Samford women's tennis team will next be in action Saturday as the Bulldogs square off against both Southern Miss and UNO at the 2009 USM Invitational to be held in Hattiesburg, Miss. Samford is slated to play Southern Miss at 10 a.m., and UNO at 2 p.m.
