Women's Tennis Comes Up Short At Georgia Southern, 4-3

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Samford University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision against the Georgia Southern Eagles on Saturday in the Bulldogs' final match of the regular season held at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
In the loss, Samford (7-12, 4-6 Southern Conference) received singles wins from Taylor Morgan, Andrie Meiring and Stephanie Parkison, as well as a doubles triumph from the combination of Jessica Diamond and Meiring. The Bulldogs were victorious in each of the top three singles matches, while Georgia Southern earned wins in the bottom three contests.
Samford's Morgan cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 singles match. With the win, the Bulldogs' sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., improved her dual-match record to 12-7 this season. On court No. 2, Samford's Meiring also improved to 12-7 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against the Eagles' Ali Beavers.
The Bulldogs' final singles win came on court No. 3 as Parkison rallied for a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Melanie Rolle.
The Samford women's tennis team will next be in action Thursday at noon (CDT) as the Bulldogs begin play in the 2009 SoCon Tournament against the Wofford Terriers in Elon, N.C.
