BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford volleyball team has rescheduled its match with Troy University for Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. The match, which was originally scheduled for Sept. 8, was postponed due to the passing of fellow student-athlete Jim Griffin.
The series with Troy is the longest in program history for Samford. Troy leads the series 34-13, but Samford has won three of the last five.
The first time the two teams met up was in 1987. The Trojans were the Bulldogs' first opponent in the year of the program's inception. Samford fell to then Troy State, 3-0, but evened the series with a win just two weeks later in a 2-1 victory.
The last time Samford and Troy met was in the 2008 Samford Invitational. The Bulldogs were victorious in a 3-1 decision on route to win the Samford Invitational title.
