The Samford women's basketball team will travel take on Southern Conference-leading Davidson in a key league matchup Saturday evening at Davidson's Belk Arena.
Davidson currently leads the Southern Conference with a 5-1 conference record. Samford enters the weekend tied for second in the league with Chattanooga with a 5-2 league record.
Samford is currently 11-5 overall on the season. The Bulldogs have won three in a row and are coming off a 70-47 win over College of Charleston on Monday. Davidson has won five games in a row and has an overall record of 7-7. The Wildcats are coming off a 69-53 non-conference win over Longwood Wednesday evening.
Samford and Davidson are meeting for just the third time, with Samford holding a 2-0 advantage in the series. Last season, Samford defeated the Wildcats, 74-65 in the Pete Hanna Center, and the Bulldogs won by a score of 78-67 in Davidson, N.C.
Samford is led in scoring by junior guard Emily London, averaging 14.9 points per game. London currently stands in third on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,030 career points. Samford's all-time leading scorer is Alex Munday who scored 1,603 points in her Samford career.
Senior guard Monica Maxwell is Samford's leading rebounder, with an average of 5.2 rebounds per game. Maxwell is also third on the team in scoring (10.4 ppg.), and she is tied for third on the squad in assists (17).
Junior forward Savannah Hill leads Samford in assists with 46 so far this season. Hill ranks second on the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.8 boards per contest, and she is second in scoring with an average of 11.8 points per game.
Davidson is led by Alex Thompson, with an average of 13.5 points per game. Sophia Aleksandravicius is second in scoring at 12.9 points per game, and she leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.4 rebounds per game.
Entering Saturday's game, Samford leads the Southern Conference in several statistical categories. The Bulldogs currently lead the league in scoring margin (+6.4 ppg.), free throw percentage (.757), three-point field goal percentage (.368), rebounding defense (32.1 rpg.), assist/turnover ratio (0.8) and three-pointers made per game (8.1 pg.).
