The Samford University soccer team extended its Southern Conference undefeated streak to seven-consecutive matches Friday as the Bulldogs fought to a 0-0 draw on the road against the Davidson Wildcats. The physical SoCon contest was held at Davidson's Alumni Field.
With the draw, Samford (10-5-2, 6-2-1 SoCon) remained undefeated since Sept. 26 and moved its record to 6-0-1 in the Bulldogs' previous seven outings. Samford started play in a three-match conference road trip Friday and improved its record to 3-3-1 in contests away from home this season.
The Bulldogs' draw was only their second of the 2010 campaign. On Aug. 27, in Samford's third match of the young season, the Bulldogs played to a 2-2 draw with Mercer at Bulldog Field.
With Friday's tie, Davidson (5-8-4, 1-4-4 SoCon) remained undefeated against Samford in the all-time series between the teams. The Wildcats currently hold a slim 1-0-2 advantage over the Bulldogs in the all-time series. Last season, the teams also played to a draw, a 1-1 affair held in Birmingham, Ala.
Samford outshot Davidson 19-8 in Friday's SoCon showdown. The Bulldogs also led the Wildcats in shots on goal 5-1.
True freshman Michelle Moll paced Samford with six shots attempts. Senior Paige Lanter and junior Sarah Wilkinson both followed with three shots apiece. Davidson was paced in shot attempts by Stephanie Gerow. She finished the match with three, one of which proved to be the Wildcats' lone shot on goal of the contest.
Samford concluded Friday's matchup with nine corner kicks, while Davidson didn't record any. Conversely, the Bulldogs were whistled for 14 fouls as compared to seven for the Wildcats.
The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 1 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs square off against the Georgia Southern Eagles at Eagle Field in Statesboro, Ga.
